Lehnis Railroad Museum and Visitor Center

Family Day at the Lehnis Railroad Museum rolls around on the first Saturday of every month, inviting families to climb aboard a day full of fun, discovery, and railroad history. It’s the perfect outing for curious kids, train lovers, and anyone looking for an easygoing family adventure. Admission is just $2 for guests ages 5 and up, while children 4 and under are free. The museum is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with plenty to see and explore at every stop. One of the highlights of the day is the mini train rides, running from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather permitting, for an additional $2 per person. This crowd-favorite ride is sure to bring smiles and make the visit extra memorable. Family Day is all about hands-on fun, affordable entertainment, and making memories together at the Lehnis Railroad Museum, no ticket to faraway places required.

Lake Brownwood State Park - Texas Parks and Wildlife

Suicide Awareness Hike in Honor of Veterans Join a meaningful walk at Guadalupe County State Natural Area to honor those lost to suicide and support veterans and service members still struggling after their service. Participants can choose from three suggested trails and complete as many laps as they feel comfortable with, hiking weighted (rucking) or unweighted. ✨ Community Support & Healing in Nature This inclusive event welcomes all ages (minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian) and encourages participants to bring flags or wear military memorabilia if they wish. Rucking is optional; those who choose to ruck with non-perishable food items can donate them at the end of the event to Good Samaritan Ministries Brownwood to help support homeless individuals in the community. In 2024, nearly 33,000 veterans were unhoused nationwide. Volunteers from mental health organizations will staff water and information stations along the trails. The hike offers a powerful opportunity to come together in nature for remembrance, awareness, and hope. ️ Event Details & Admission Meeting Location: Group Dining Hall Suggested Routes: • 0.75-mile Possum Loop (more accessible, gentle slopes) • 0.96-mile Texas Oak Trail (difficult, rocky with steep sections) • 2.87-mile Nopales Ridge Trail (longest option with rocky elevation changes) What to Bring: Comfortable hiking shoes, sunscreen, bug spray, hat, at least 2 liters of water per person, and a snack if desired. Bring your own weighted ruck if rucking. Cost: Free – entrance fees are waived for this event Veterans and active-duty military are encouraged to obtain a Parklands Passport in advance for free entry to all Texas State Parks (available at the Visitor Center or any Texas State Park). Dress for outdoor hiking and come ready to walk in community.

Lake Brownwood State Park - Texas Parks and Wildlife

Lake Brownwood State Park Halloween Trunk or Treat Families are invited to a fun and safe Halloween Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 24 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Lake Brownwood State Park. Kids can dress up in their Halloween costumes and enjoy trick-or-treating as campers decorate their campsites and hand out candy in a family-friendly outdoor setting. The event also features Creepy Crawlies with Ranger George for some spooky educational fun. ✨ Family-Friendly Fun & Safe Outdoor Adventure This festive event creates a welcoming, community atmosphere where children can trick-or-treat safely among beautifully decorated campsites at Willow Point Campground. Campers are welcome to participate by decorating their sites and passing out candy, free campsites are available for those who sign up to help host the event. It’s a perfect opportunity for families to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Lake Brownwood State Park while celebrating Halloween together. ️ Admission & Registration Entry fee is waived for this special event in lieu of a donation item (specific items needed will be announced later). Free campsites for campers who wish to decorate and pass out candy are available on a first-come, first-served basis. To reserve a hosting campsite, call the park office at (325) 784-5223 or email lakebrownwoodsp@tpwd.texas.gov. What to bring: Halloween costume and candy bucket.
